The Lumii resin vat comes pre-installed with a PFA (nFEP) film, which acts as a release layer during printing. Over time, the film can become dented, deformed, or punctured, affecting print quality or causing failed prints. Minor scratches or smudges typically do not require replacement.
This guide will show you how to replace the PFA (nFEP) film on your Lumii resin vat.
Before You Begin
When to Replace the FEP Film
- The film is dented, deformed, or pierced
- Significant clouding that affects print quality
- Visible tears or holes
Note: Regular inspection is recommended to prevent print failures.
Tools & Materials
- 2 mm Allen wrench
- 2.5 mm Allen wrench
- 3 mm Allen wrench
- Replacement PFA (nFEP) film
- Microfiber cloth
- 95% isopropyl alcohol
- Box cutter (for trimming)
- Nitrile gloves
Removing the Pressure Plate From the Resin Vat
- Remove the resin vat from the printer and place it on a stable, flat surface.
- Clean the entire vat thoroughly using 95% isopropyl alcohol, especially around the screw holes and edges.
- Flip the resin vat upside down to access the bottom frame.
- Use a 3 mm Allen wrench to remove the 4 M4x12 socket head screws.
- Switch to a 2.5 mm Allen wrench to loosen and remove the 10 M4x10 screws securing the frame.
- Carefully separate the pressure (frame) from the resin vat.
Remove the Old Film from the Pressure Plate
- Flip the pressure plate (frame) over and use a 2 mm Allen wrench to remove the 24 M3x3 screws securing the two metal frames together.
- Remove and discard the old PFA (nFEP) film from between the frames.
Install the New Film
- Clean both metal frames to remove any remaining resin.
- Remove the protective layers from the new PFA (nFEP) film.
- Place the film between the two frames, making sure the holes align.
- Carefully pierce the film at each screw hole with a pointed tool.
- Secure the frames together, starting with the corner screws, then tightening the remaining screws in a diagonal pattern to ensure even tension.
Reassemble the Resin Vat
Tighten the screws in two rounds—first with the long end of the Allen wrench, then fully tighten with the short end for even pressure.
- Flip the assembled film frame over and place it back onto the resin vat.
- Make sure the bevel holes are facing upward.
- Use a 3 mm allen wrench to tighten the 4 M4x12 socket head screws diagonally first, followed by the remaining screws.
- Trim any excess film along the edges of the vat using a box cutter.
Final Check
- Verify that all screws are securely tightened.
- Inspect the film to confirm it is evenly tensioned and ready for use.
